West Side Story by the Opera Fuoco

  • West Side Story
    December 8, 2017
    8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

David Stern’s Opera Fuoco returns to the Mona Bismarck American Center with the timeless musical West Side Story (Leonard Bernstein, Arthur Laurents, Stephen Sondheim et Jerome Robbins). The soprano Reri Grist, who played Consuela in the original production of West Side Storywill be the special guest at this concert.

This year, we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of this masterpiece! Created in 1957 on Broadway, this musical became a worldwide success when the film by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise was released in 1961. West Side Story won 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

Based on the universal drama of Shakespeare’s Romeo and JulietWest Side Story retraces the impossible love story between Tony and Maria, each belonging to rival gangs in 1950’s Manhattan (the white Jets and immigrant Puerto Rican Sharks). Just like in Verona, love in the Upper West Side tries in vain to triumph over intolerance and preconceptions.

PAN was able to purchase a very limited number of seats for this performance @20€.
