What better way to transition into summer in Paris, than with one of the most complex and highly rated French rosé wines?
Tavel is the only Rosé with its own AOC appellation and produces only rosé wines. A Rhône Valley Cru, it’s considered one of the most complex and long-lived rosés in the world.
The Rhône Valley is also one of the oldest wine producing regions of France with the northern Rhône believed to have the earliest vineyards in the country. Wine has existed there since 600 BC.
As you go south, the valley spreads out from the high cliffs into a flat landscape with a completely different climate from the northern valley..more Mediterranean, with mild winters, hot summers, and low rainfalls. Stands of cypress are planted to protect the vines from the Mistral. The soils are a variety of limestone or sandy gravel, and covered with large galets in the best areas.
Tavel produces dry, full-bodied complex rosés, thanks to blending both white and black grapes. All other rosé wines are made from black grapes only. Look for Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Cinsault, and Clairette, along with lesser known cépages such as Bourboulenc, Carignan, Picpoul, and Calitor. Let’s see how many will be in the wines of our tasting, from the fabulous Domaine de la Mordorée.
We will be trying a selection of wines that offer extraordinary quality for the price, and will only have a 12-bottle selection on hand for purchase after the tasting, so be quick if you want something to take home. You won’t find this in Paris. Everything has been shipped in especially for this tasting.
20€, limited to eight people.
