- Christian Dior exhibit
October 28, 2017
11:00 am - 12:30 pm
The Museum of Decorative Arts celebrates the 70th anniversary of the creation of the House of Christian Dior. This fabulous exhibition invites the visitor to discover the universe of its founder and the renowned designers who succeeded him: Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Raf Simons and recently Maria Grazia Chiuri. Emotion, shared experiences, affinity, inspiration, creation and kinship link this selection of more than 300 couture dresses designed from 1947 to the present day.
Alongside them are presented workshop paintings and fashion photographs, as well as hundreds of documents (illustrations, sketches, letters and manuscripts, advertisements…), and fashion items (hats, jewelry, bags, shoes, perfume bottles…). And since Christian Dior was also a man of art and a lover of museums, over 70 years’ creation appears in paintings, furniture and objets d’art. These works emphasize and extend the vision of Christian Dior
by exploring the links he was able to weave between sewing and all art forms, defining his brand.
The two Commissioners, Florence Müller and Olivier Gabet, have constructed the exhibit to create a chronological and thematic path, uniting, for the first time, the areas dedicated to fashion with those of the nave of the Museum, totaling nearly 3,000m2.
